Current VolunteersThe 2004-05 Massachusetts 4-H season is in full swing with club enrollments, fair season and planning for future events well underway. There are a variety of special events in Massachusetts planned for National 4-H week, October 4 – 9, 2004. Each region will hold different programs during this time. Check with your regional Educator or look in your local 4-H newsletter to see what’s happening in your area. Currently Massachusetts 4-H is undertaking a major fundraising event across the state - - “Let’s get Moving – 4-H Walk for Healthy Kids” on May 15, 2005. The counties will be picking their walkathon locations this fall and walker pledge forms will be available in January. We strongly encourage all 4-H volunteers and club members to recruit walkers, pledges and organizational sponsors to support this event that is so important for 4-H’s continued future. Contact your regional Educator for details. Fall Community Service Toy and Clothing Drive: The collection of new toys and dressy clothing for infants and children up to the age of 5 is underway. These items will be donated to the Foster Children Evaluation Services program at the UMass Medical Center. Educators will be collecting these donations during the month of October. Your regional 4-H office can provide you with further details. The Mass 4-H Program needs your help in publicizing 4-H events. If you wish to place an announcement or an article in your local newspaper, please contact your regional Educator. Don’t forget that each club will be eligible to receive a $50 check through the 4-H Publicity Program sponsored by the Massachusetts 4-H Foundation for a news article about their activities that has been published. The article must include your local 4-H club’s name and town. For more details, visit the Massachusetts 4-H Foundation web site at mass4hfoundation.org.
